Click on the Start button on the bottom left corner of your screen to bring up the Start menu.
From the Start menu, right-click on Computer (for Windows XP it is called My Computer).
Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
This will bring up the Properties page that will indicate the version of Windows and whether you are using 32 or 64 bit Windows...

Some things to note about 32 and 64 bit software:
32 bit software will run in 64 bit Windows Vista and Windows 7, but not vice-versa.
64 bit software runs better and faster in 64 bit Windows than 32 bit software.
A 32 bit web browser running in 64 bit Windows must run 32 bit add-ons. You cannot use 64 bit add-ons in a 32 bit web browser.
Some software installers come with both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of software. The installer will determine which one to install.
Some software installers are specific to 32 ot 64 bit versions. It is up to the person installing the software to know whether he or she has a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows.
32 bit Windows is sometimes referred to as Windows x86.
